Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressively debilitating disease that changes an individual’s life and self-perception. It is the most common neurological disorder in young adults between the ages of 20-50. A person diagnosed with MS must manage symptoms, implement and adhere to prescribed medical treatments, and make modifications in lifestyle and behaviors to successfully face the challenges presented by the illness. The uncertainty of the disease course and the negative perception of MS can cause feelings of overwhelming distress, hopelessness, and anxiety.
